I will start by saying THIS. I was young, I was only 24 years old. This was my first (and unfortunately my only) child. My son is now 16, but this experience with Dr. Marcus has haunted me ever since then (due to the fact that I have never had a successful pregnancy SINCE Dr. Marcus… 3 miscarriages). Yes, he was very loud and charismatic and easy going (I remember he always wore Hawaiian shirts). But I honestly felt, over time, that was just to SEEM friendly. Like I said, I was young, this was my first child. So I put a whole lot of trust in my doctor. And how friendly Dr. Marcus was blinded me to the fact that he never really did his job. All of the conversations you are supposed to be able to have with your doctor- he never wanted to have them with me. I remember in my “What to expect when you’re expecting” book, I had gotten to the point where it suggests you to start going over your birth plan with your doctor. But when I would bring that to him, he just kept telling me “Oh, you don’t need that”. What? Remember, this is my first child. I wanted to experience everything. I feel like Dr. Marcus robbed me of that experience. I was hurt, but I didn’t show it. I just kept trying at later visits. But he kept saying the same thing. Eventually I gave up. On my last visit, the nurse staff came in and said to me “Guess what? You’re going to meet your baby today!” As a first time mom, of course you can imagine my excitement! But something in me didn’t feel all the way right. It’s only 2/27 and my due date isn’t until 3/3. I’m not having ANY labor pains whatsoever. Plus, isn’t it known that first time babies tend to come later than expected? But I trusted Dr. Marcus so I said “Ok”. (I had gest diabetes and Dr. Marcus said he believed my baby was 10lbs+) Fast forward, he induced my labor, brought me to the highest level of petocin (not sure how it’s spelled) I believe that’s 36 (I don’t know the measurements or how it works, I just remember being at the max and Dr. Marcus being shocked that I didn’t feel my contractions). Side note: I was believing in God for a ”pain-free” L&D (which Dr. Marcus thought I was crazy for doing but he also did another small procedure on me while I was 8 mos pregnant that is known to be extremely painful (I know, I had it done a few times before) and I had talked right through the entire thing without even realizing it was over! The power of God!!! At that moment, both He and I knew that I could have a pain-free delivery. Anyway, back to the L&D, I never dilated past 1cm. Don’t that mean that my baby want ready? Exactly. I stayed the night in the hospital and he then broke my water at 8am the next morning. Still nothing. We waited until 7pm that night and still nothing. So Dr. Marcus came to me and said if I don’t start dilating by 7:30 then they’ll have to take me to OP (c-section). What? How did we get here? At 7:47pm my son was born… via c-section. And I was devastated. Of course I was happy to see my baby, but I could have pushed my baby. If we would have let him come when he was ready. Like any other first born child. My mom (who is a nurse) let me know her skepticism. dr. Marcus was going on vacation (hence the Hawaii shirts) and I, a younger black woman, at that time, on Medicaid, my mother told me that Medicaid takes too long to pay doctors for deliveries (sometimes over a year). But if it’s an OPERATION (hence the c-section) the money comes much faster. After all of that, I had been having some extreme pains in my abdomen. So I called the office quite a few times and was always out to the back burner. Sometimes out on hold so longer that eventually the nurse staff would pick up the phone just to hang it up in my face. Then I would have to call them all over again. When I finally DID speak to a nurse and telling her what I was experiencing, she said it’s normal it’ll go away. Well after about 2 weeks I have to go to the ER to find out it was a UTI. I only went back for my “2 week visit” and that was the last time they ever saw me out my baby. He was 7lbs 16oz by the way.

Dr Menon is the absolute best. She is detailed and open in how she communicates and she always makes me feel comfortable. It is clear she really cares about her patients. She also listens patiently and never rushes me out or brushes aside my concerns. I have recommended her to many of my friends and they have all been very happy too. Truly can’t say enough good things!

I have been going to Dr. Bearman for quite some time now. Dr. Bearman is very approachable and easy to talk to. He is very good in explaining medical diagnosis to his patients in layman terms so that someone who is non-medical can understand. He is good with time management and doesn't have his patients waiting for long periods of time while ensuring that each patient receives a thorough exam.

For the past 20 years Dr. Bearman has provided me with kind and compassionate care. He is engaging and always provides the time needed to converse, exam, and answer any and all questions. He is a straight shooter but unafraid to mix in a little humor when warranted. He is one of the finest physicians I have known.
